What is commercial window cleaning?

Windows can shape the feeling people have about your organisation both inside and out, contributing not only to the aesthetics of your building, but also the happiness of your employees and size of your energy bills.

In this article we’re going to take a look at the benefits of commercial window cleaning, the types of services on offer, and the sectors that could benefit from it.

What are the benefits of commercial window cleaning?

There are a number of benefits to securing the services of a commercial window cleaning company, including:

  • Maximising sunlight
  • Prevent window degradation
  • Give the best possible first impression

Let’s take a look at each of these benefits in more detail

Maximising sunlight

Maximising the amount of natural light entering your commercial building is important for two reasons:

  • It provides a free source of warmth to the building during winter months
  • It’s critical to the mental wellbeing of your employees

However, unclean windows reduce the amount of natural light that can enter the building significantly. Not only will these lead to higher energy bills in the winter, but there are also implications for employee motivation and productivity.

Prevent window degradation

Without regular cleaning, the build-up of dirt and grime will get harder and harder to remove. While this might not damage the glass itself, the window frame could degrade over time, leading to a number of potential issues such as ‘blown’ double glazing or cracking.

Types of commercial window cleaning

The type of commercial window cleaning you need will depend on the layout and size of your building. Below are four of the techniques we employ at Churchill Cleaning for our customers.

Reach and wash

This technique involves a water-fed pole system, allowing us to clean windows on high-rise buildings without having to leave the ground. Our vans stock poles that reach up to 80 feet, allowing us to utilise ‘reach and wash’ window cleaning on buildings up to seven stories high. Where access to certain windows is restricted or where water-fed poles aren’t suitable—for example low level windows, tight access areas or inside buildings—we use traditional ladders.

Access platforms

We also boast a range of access platforms, including static, self-propelled and vehicle-mounted booms. For very tall commercial buildings our truck-mounted access platforms can reach up to 90) 52 metres.

Cradles

Cradle window cleaning involves a suspended platform attached to your building via a cradle runway system. This is a stable and secure method of cleaning windows on high-rise commercial buildings, and allows us to deliver a thorough and efficient cleaning service.

Rope access

In instances where ground-based methods aren’t possible and there’s no cradle runway system in place, our highly IRATA trained and certified experts can use rope access to abseil down your building.

Which sectors should consider commercial window cleaning services?

All commercial premises should invest in regular window cleaning, but there are some sectors that we specialise in.

Corporate offices

We provide a comprehensive cleaning service to our corporate clients, including a wide range of commercial window cleaning options. Your employees and clients expect you to set certain standards, and dirty windows will undermine the image you want to put forward of your company. We can work inside or outside of your office hours to suit you, while the frequency of our visits can also be tailored to your company’s specific needs.

Educational facilities

Schools, colleges and universities are busy and diverse environments that have unique cleaning needs. Here at Churchill Cleaning, we’ve been cleaning educational institutions, including at primary, secondary and tertiary level, for over 25 years. In that time, we’ve established ourselves as one of the go-to cleaning providers for the education sector, thanks to our experienced and fully certified cleaning team. We understand that schools are at the heart of the local community, and our cleaning teams are also a part of that community, making it easier for them to integrate with your team.

Local authorities

Local council offices are often large estates made up of multiple buildings with complex requirements. At Churchill, we specialise in handling the complex requirements of local authorities, and we are often trusted keyholders for our local government clients.

Ahead of starting a commercial window cleaning contract with a local authority client, we’ll carry out site audits and surveys to ascertain what’s required and develop a bespoke cleaning plan.

Some of our local authority clients include Epsom and Ewell, Woking, Wokingham, Dorset, Poole and Bournemouth, Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, West Sussex and Kent.

Here at Churchill Cleaning we pride ourselves on the length of relationships we have with our clients. We’ve worked with a number of public and private sector organisations for years, and this is testament to the high quality of service our expert team is able to offer.
