Legionella risk assessment
Legionnaires’ disease is a potentially fatal form of pneumonia caused by legionella bacteria, and is the most serious and well known of a group of diseases known as legionellosis. Infection is caused by breathing in small droplets of water which have been contaminated by legionella bacteria.
Legionella is commonly found in water systems, including those supplied by mains water, and can be extremely difficult to remove once it has contaminated your water systems.
As a result, all water systems require very careful and regular management, as if left unchecked, can be dangerous.
Determining the cause of legionella in a property can be a complex process. Call our HelpPoint line today to arrange a survey: HelpPoint 0845 345 1576
It’s your legal obligation…
As the person in control of any premises, you must by law regularly assess the risk and take suitable precautions to protect your staff and members of the public from the risk of infection. Following the legal requirements detailed in the HSE’s Approved Code of Practice ‘L8’, COSHH Regulations and HSG274 will ensure you comply with the law. In particular you must have at least undertaken the following:
• A suitable and sufficient risk assessment by a competent person and in accordance with the British Standard (BS 8580-1:2019 Legionella Risk Assessments).
• A formally appointed person to take responsibility for legionella control.
• A scheme for managing and controlling the risk, undertaken by competent and trained personnel.
• A robust system of records as evidence of all water system monitoring, servicing and maintenance activity, in accordance with the British Standard (BS 8680:2020 Water Safety Plan).
Churchill Environmental Services’ highly professional risk assessment team delivers industry leading risk assessments and system asset surveys, providing a 360° viewpoint of building water systems.
