Chlorine dioxide

Chlorine dioxide is an extremely effective biocide, widely used for controlling legionella and other potentially harmful bacteria in a variety of applications, including potable water systems.

In some complex water systems, or where building occupancy levels are constant, it may not be possible to use biocides at high levels, and so chlorine dioxide is often the most suitable method of ensuring pathogens and contaminants are effectively controlled through continuous dosing and treatment.

Chemical cleaning and disinfection

As part of the monitoring and inspection regime (required by ACoP L8, HSG278 and HTM 04-01), the need for one off or reactive chemical disinfections is often identified.

All chemical and thermal disinfections should be undertaken by suitably trained and experienced personnel, with the method carefully selected and appropriate for each set of circumstances. A variety of chemical methods could be used (chlorine dioxide, sodium hypochlorite etc.) and should meet the standards set out in British Standard
BS 8558.

Our expert technical managers and field engineers are able to provide a variety of disinfection methods to suit each individual set of circumstances. We will ensure that treatments are undertaken safely, and supplemented with effective testing, sampling and monitoring that prove the efficacy of each disinfection.

Closed system dosing, testing and analysis

Poorly maintained Low Temperature Hot Water (LTHW) and Chilled Water (CHW) systems will often become contaminated with sludge, scale and corrosion that can affect the day to day functionality and efficiency of the systems. These deposits also act as a food source for harmful bacteria (such as sulphate reducing bacteria and pseudomonas), which can cause system corrosion, often leading

to water leaks, increased energy costs and sometimes expensive repairs.

Churchill Environmental Services’ team of specialist engineers offers a wide range of products and monitoring and testing services (non-intrusive filtration, dosing and control
of biocides and anti-corrosion products, and system flushing) to help maintain water quality in these systems, prevent damage and comply with industry guidance.
